Light posting (if at all) on my part today, because I've got my MA review tomorrow morning (yeah, genius scheduling on my part), so I'll have to turn in early. But feel free to talk amongst yourselves, and also:

1) vote, if you haven't already; and

2) check out this month's History Carnival, featuring a post by our own iampunha.

What's on your mind?

[Update] Obama on his grandmother, who died last night (R.I.P.):

She was born in Kansas in a small town in 1922. Which means that she lived through the Great Depression, she lived through two World Wars, she watched her husband go off to war while she looked after a baby and worked on a bomber assembly line.

I know I should leave the guy alone, but...notice anything out of place there?

Well, lots of conservatives count the Cold War as WWIII....

What's an "MA Review"?

(we voted: no lines, no problems; not a battleground state or major urban area)

What's an "MA Review"?

It's where some professors talk to me for a couple hours and then decide whether or not to give me a Master's degree and admit me to doctoral study. To a large degree it's a formality, but I still want to do my best.

Good luck!

and, regarding the election, Wow.

I've never heard of an "MA review" either. When I finished my MA the departmental secretary just stuck a note in my box that indicated I was accepted for doctoral studies ( which I declined to pursue).

Must be some kind of new practice. hope it went well!

Mark, then again you probably had to write a thesis. Here, the only thing I have to do to get my MA is write a seminar paper and pass a certain number of credits, plus go through the largely-formal review.

Anyhow, looks like I made it through just fine. YHorray for the MA!

That would be "Hooray," of course...not that I'm tired at all...

Here in suburban PA, I volunteered for Video the Vote and Black Box Voting after the polls closed by going to the nearest polling places to my house and video taping the results posted on the doors.

Obama blew McCain out of the water.

A few interesting things:

1. I put up a Nader/Gonzalez sign at one of the polling places earlier in the day. He got 3x the vote there as he did at the other place.

2. There were 4 write-in votes, total. 3 for Hillary Clinton, one for Ron Paul, and one for Charlie Emanuel (manager of the WORLD CHAMPION Phillies).

Congrats Jeremy !

Yep, thesis. About sixty pages of single spaced type.

MA program number # 2 I'm in has some kind of portfolio defense. Weird but whatever, as it is for work, not my personal interests.

Huh. You know, I had to write a thesis like that for undergrad. So I guess I can say I've written one.
