History Carnival 67 is up at Future/Retro. Andy apparently decided not to link to the ProgressiveHistorians post I nominated, so I'll feature it here: Elle's Rocky Road (more of Elle's fantastic writing here). On a side note, this is only the second time in almost two years of submitting content to the History Carnival that the host has elected not to feature a post from ProgressiveHistorians. The first time, I submitted something not very historical and did so the day before the deadline.

Congratulations to Elle for scoring a guest post at Shakesville -- and thanks to her for linking back to Winter Rabbit's piece on forced sterilizations on this site. Another post by Winter Rabbit, on McCain's part in forced relocation of the Dine people, has been picked up by a new blog, Native Americans Against McCain.

Several of my fellow history bloggers are featured in the new Art History Carnival, which is well worth a read. Hat tip Ralph Luker.

What's on your mind?

That is really a shame because U thought Elle's essay was easily one of the best I have read this year.

I agree. I think Andy was trying for a slimmed-down Carnival with fewer links than usual, which is of course his prerogative, but suffice it to say that I disagree with his choice.

Anything interesting happen over the summer, blogwise?

We have high-speed internet, and we're probably three-fourths unpacked: I think I'm ready to rejoin the blogosphere. I've got about two hundred backlog posts in bloglines, still.

Heh, have fun reading...

Nothing big has happened recently that I can think of. We had a little symposium here, Mark and Elle and I got some sweet cross-posting opportunities, and we've got a new front-pager (iampunha). That's about it, really.

Good to have you back in business.

Here is the guy that should be our first black president****

We should have a nationwide push to write him in for our next president *****

'They're standing on the corner and they can't speak English. I can't even talk the way these people talk:

Why you ain't,
Where you is,
What he drive,
Where he stay,
Where he work,
Who you be...

And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk.

And then I heard the father talk.

Everybody knows it's important to speak English except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor with that kind of crap coming out of your mouth.

In fact you will never get any kind of job making a decent living. People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking around.

The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal.

These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids. $500 sneakers for what??

And they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics.
I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit.

Where were you when he was 2??

Where were you when he was 12??

Where were you when he was 18 and how come you didn't know that he had a pistol??

And where is the father?? Or who is his father?

People putting their clothes on backward:
Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong?

People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn't that a sign of something?

Or are you waiting for Jesus to pull his pants up?

Isn't it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up and got all type of needles [piercing] going through her body? What part of Africa did this come from??

We are not Africans. Those people are not Africans; they don't know a thing about Africa .

With names like Shaniqua, Taliqua and Mohammed and all of that crap, and all of them are in jail.

Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person's problem. We have got to take the neighborhood back.

People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different 'husbands' -- or men or whatever you call them now.

We have millionaire football players who cannot read.

We have million-dollar basketball players who can't write two paragraphs. We, as black folks have to do a better job. Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us.

We have to start holding each other to a higher standard.

We cannot blame the white people any longer.'

Dr. William Henry 'Bill' Cosby,Jr., Ed.D.

WAY TO GO, BILL !!
It's NOT about color..
It's about behavior!!!

PASS THIS ON AMERICA!....If you actually consider yourself as an American.

Mr. Alford, I pass this along to you as someone heartbroken by the bigoted decision by Judge Robert James to deny the opening of D'Arbonne Woods Charter School.

Elle was right, there was NOTHING to celebrate about that decision and there was certainly NOTHING to praise about the efforts of those that misrepresented the facts about that school and intimidated black parents to keep their children out of DWCS.

Anyone that bothered to listen to the expert testimony of Dr. Rochelle Gilbert would have quickly learned that hypocrits like Rev. Carr have been wrong from the start and he has done more to harm all the children in Union Parish than he has helped, except, of course, his own children that attend an all black "private" school funded with state (my) taxes.

You might wonder, I know I certainly do, why did Rev. Carr refuse to even discuss the school with Dr. Gilbert? Why did Rev. Carr ignore ALL attempts by the DWCS Board to discuss this school? Was he afraid he might learn truth, or was he afraid that he would lose some of his power in the community, a community that he has failed miserably.

Oh, and if I could impose upon you, please, would you pass this on to Elle.

I would welcome the opportunity to hear her comments on this matter as well. Of course, I would prefer not to waste my time on unsubstantiated opinion before we clear up the FACTS first.

Best regards,

Jeremy YOUNG,

Please, forgive me, I did not intentionally put "Alford" just my mistake. Hopefully it will serve to prove that I am only human, too.

If it is possible for you to edit that post and correct your name, I would certainly appreciate it. I tend to get very aggravated with myself when I make typos, especially since I do try to proof everything I write.

Again, thanks and best regards.

Dear. State Representatives of the Great State of Georgia and Patriotic Americans

You may want to look into this matter cautiously and I may be way off base and if I am I apologize now. George W. Bush may have lost the National Guard contingence from your State of Georgia in the Republic of Georgia. I am sorry if you have not been notified by our government.

A large contingent of Georgia Army National Guard soldiers flew to the Republic of Georgia on Sunday for joint military exercises at a time when tension is brewing in the region.

The soldiers, mostly from the metro area, will be part of "Immediate Response 2008," which will amount to the largest U.S. footprint on the crossroads of Asia and Europe since the Cold War began.

"There are lots of bodies over there, a lot of people have been killed, mostly Ossetians, but also Georgians, they had American emblems on their forearms and they were in black uniforms."

Georgia makes up the 3rd largest coalition in Iraq after the United States and Great Britain. Did Bush send our American troops into Georgia to fight the Russians?

Home U.S. Military Instructors Command Hirelings in Georgia

http://www.kommersant.com/p-13081/me...S._instructor/

Thousands of mercenaries are fighting for Georgia in this burning conflict with South Ossetia. They are commanded by the U.S. military instructors, RIA Novosti reported with reference to a high-ranked officer of Russia's military intelligence.
"From 2,500 to 3,000 mercenaries fight against Russia?s peacekeepers on behalf of Georgia," the unnamed source said. Amid them are the natives of Ukraine, some Baltic states and the Caucasus regions.

The U.S. military instructors directly command and coordinate actions of mercenaries without being involved in actual fighting, the source specified. According to intelligence data, there are roughly 1,000 military instructors of the United States in Georgia.

Task force of Russia has annihilated a few groups of mercenaries. Some of mercenaries have been captured, and investigators are working with them, the source said.
