What a fabulous writer he is. Thomas Sugrue turned up some of the same sorts of documents in Detroit during his research for The Origins of the Urban Crisis. In fact, it may have been even worse in Detroit, given that George Wallace won the Democratic primary there in 1972 just before he was shot.
Given my current stack of books, I won't get to reading Nixonland until July or August -and I probably will take issue with some of Rick's interpretations - but from skimming a copy yesterday, I'd say the book is a "must read" for anyone interested in that era or the Nixon administration.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.
