Just a quick report, and then I'm off to dinner. I'm here at the AHA in Washington, and while it's crazy and busy, I'm having a lot of fun. I've attended two panels so far -- one by established professors, another by grad students -- and both were fabulous. There's nothing quite like seeing similar researches juxtaposed in real time to get you thinking about larger issues. And the book exhibit here -- just about every publisher in academia, plus the Ayn Rand Society, has their books here -- is absolutely fabulous. I don't have room to fit anything in my suitcase, but you can bet I'm writing down titles and will be getting the books when I can. A more detailed rundown of events is available here, from the omnipresent Rick Shenkman.
I want to remind everyone that ProgressiveHistorians and friends will be meeting tomorrow, January 5, 2008, at noon at City Lights of China. The original, detailed announcement is here. Strandsofpearl and I will probably be there around 11:30 in case anyone feels like straggling in early for some conversation. If you haven't RSVP'd, no problem -- just show up and we'll fit you in somewhere.
Finally, congratulations to the Historians for Obama, whose candidate scored a decisive victory in yesterday's Iowa caucuses. Though I'm uncomfortable with the nature of their endorsement, these historians certainly share at least a small portion of the credit for Obama's victory.
